Dr Nick Axford

University of Plymouth

Dr Nick Axford is PenCLAHRC Associate Professor (Reader) in Health Services at the University of Plymouth, in the Institute of Translational & Stratified Medicine (Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry). Prior to joining Plymouth University, he was a senior researcher at Dartington Social Research Unit, and Nick remains a Dartington associate.

His particular interests are defining and measuring child wellbeing and developing and evaluating evidence-based interventions, particularly in a European context. He has worked extensively with service providers in the UK and Ireland to help design new interventions and import and adapt proven programmes from the US.

Nick has a BA (Hons) in Geography with European Study from the University of Exeter, an MSc in European Social Policy Analysis from the University of Bath, and a PhD in Social Work and Probation Studies from the University of Exeter. He has been co-editor of the Journal of Children’s Services since its inception in 2006.
