Professor Kathryn Asbury

Kathryn Asbury is Director of Research in the University of York's Department of Education, and Director of the GenOmics And Life Stories (GOALS) lab. The main focus of her research, which has been funded by the British Academy, the Economic and Social Research Council, National Institutes of Health and the Nuffield Foundation, is understanding and communicating the implications of genomic research for education and social policy. She is interested in mental health and wellbeing among pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, and in the implications of genomic research for our understanding of disability.

Kathryn has a an undergraduate degree in history from the University of Cambridge, a postgraduate conversion diploma in psychology from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a PhD in behavioural genetics from the Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Centre at King's College London. She has been employed by the University of York since 2012.
